Weigh In

Liam had a quick trip to the doctor's yesterday. A great perk in having a mother-in-law that works at a pediatrician's office is that we can pop in for a quick visit if we feel we need too. I guess you can do that at any pediatrician's office, but she really makes the process a lot easier and we usual don't have to wait long at all. We get the VIP treatment! Anyway, we thought he might have an earache or something because he was acting cranky. It turns out he is fine- probably just teeth that are coming in. Apparently, they can start getting pains a couple of weeks before the teeth actually come in. All of this talking just to say that we got to weigh him and he is 19 lbs, 14 ounces. Right on course. He has been eating more and more regular food lately. His favorite is when I make him peaches. He is not a fan of anything green, just like his mother! I made a whole batch of broccoli and he literally gagged on it. He doesn't know what to do with Cheerios. He kinda just picks them up one by one and drops it on the floor so he can watch Maeby eat them.

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

Yesterday was Liam's 7 month birthday and with it has come many changes. To quote the great and wise David Bowie, " Time may change me, but I can't trace time".  First off, he is almost crawling. He mostly scoots or throws himself to his desired location, but he does take a few "steps" here and there. He can also sit up all by himself now. This is an advancement that comes with a little annoyance from me because it used to be that I would let him whine it out when he woke up occasionally at night and he would fall back asleep. Now he has taken to sitting up to voice his displeasure and that makes it all the harder for him to fall back asleep on his own. We have also made 2 recent purchases that I love dearly. The first is this great foam mat that has taken the place of a rug and blanket. You see them all the time at daycares, but they are pretty expensive and too brightly colored for my taste. So when I saw them advertised in a boring old khaki color for college dorms I scooped them up. Now he roams freely without any blankets under him to clean every couple of days. The other big purchase is a big boy highchair- love it! But the biggest change of all- DAYCARE... EEEEKKK!!! I never thought this day would come, but it did. Luckily we found a great in-home place. It was the one that I referred to earlier. I really like Jordanna and I think he will be happy there. It's me I'm worried about :(

2 Man Band

Daycare Search

That's right- the time has come to put my little snugglebug into daycare. :( I have had such a fabulous time staying home and playing with him that you can imagine how much I am not looking forward to this progression. It's a hard step to take. Chris was off yesterday so we visited a few places. The first decision was what kind of place? I think we are both more comfortable leaving Liam in the care of a fellow mom instead of an hourly employee who may or may not have kids of their own. So we looked on the DCF website for licensed home daycares. The next decision was location- close to where we live or close to where I work? I voted for where I work so that I could go visit him on my lunch break. However, that search didn't really come up with any positive finds. So we turned to where we live. We found Jordana. She is a mother of two who is the same age as me and seems to know her stuff. She has seven kids total (including Liam) but one is older and will not be there when school starts up again. That was the only downfall for me because he is used to such a quiet environment, but maybe it will be good for him to be around other kids. He loves watching kids play and hopefully he will pick up on walking, talking, etc... faster as a result. The decision is not totally final yet. I have one more place I want to check out tomorrow that is close to work, but something tells me Jordanna is the one. If you want to check out her place, you can see it here.... www.myspace.com/fl9542059056

Even though he cheated....

... I am still very proud of him. I will most likely be going back to work in a little over a week so I wanted to try and start training Liam to take his naps in his crib. Up until now he has been taking naps in his swing still. He is not one of those babies that just falls asleep when he is tired. It has to be dark. It has to be quiet. If we are in the car- yes. If we are at home-yes. Even walking in the stroller- sometimes. He could be two hours overdue for a nap, but if we are in Target with the lights and the stuff to look at there is no way in hell that boy is going to sleep. So what I anticipated was a 30-60 minute cry-a-thon in which I would feel like crap and he would feel betrayed by his mother. What I got was a 20 second mumble proceeded by a 2 hour long peaceful nap. What I didn't know was that I had left a pacifier in there from the night before. He doesn't get a pacifier at night, but he woke up in the middle of night because he didn't eat all of his dinner and was hungry so I gave it to him to help him fall back asleep. So he had found the pacifier and drifted off to sleep. Now I am wondering if I should just give him the pacifier for naps or try to break him of that here and now. What do you guys think?

4th of July

Liam and I spent the day with the Matherly's and Loforte's at the beach. It was actually nice weather because there were some gloomy clouds in the distance that covered up the sun. Luckily, the rain waited until nightfall so it was never a problem for us. Liam has had his feet in the water before, but this was his first venture into the sea where he got wet past his knees. He was not too thrilled with it in the beginning, but he sorta got used to it after a little while. You can see in the first picture that he had to be attached to me or he was having none of it. He held on so tight to my neck and if I tried to hold him out so he could see the waves he started crying. I think it was the waves that scared him. I sat him down right by the shore (like in the second pic) and when the tiniest of waves came close to him he would whimper. It was actually pretty cute. Cameron seemed to enjoy the water, but he is one of the most easy going babies I have ever met. It was a relaxing day and the only thing that would have made it better is if Daddy O didn't have to work. But somebody has to pay the bills in this family...

4 Steps to Becoming a White Trash Baby

Step One: Begin the day fully clothed and clean
Step Two: Go poop and get it all over your pants resulting in no more pants.
Step Three: Go out to eat and forget to bring a bib resulting in no more shirt.
Step Four: Voila! You are now a bona fide "White Trash Baby"
